Psychodermatology comprises three patient groups:
- Patients who visit the dermatologist, but have a primary psychiatric disorder, among which are Body Dymorphic Disorder (BDD), skin picking, facticious disorders or delusional parasitosis.
- Patients developing psychiatric disorders or psychological problems such as depression or coping problems as a consequence of their -often chronic- skin disease.
- Patients with psychosocial problems such as financial problems, problems at work or other stress factors that affect the development, course and treatment of skin diseases.
